In vitro fertilization with sperm donation is a fertility treatment option for individuals or couples who are unable to conceive using the male partner's sperm due to various reasons, such as severe male factor infertility, genetic conditions, or absence of sperm production (azoospermia).

Once the ovarian follicles have matured, the eggs are retrieved from the female partner's ovaries using a minimally invasive surgical procedure called transvaginal ultrasound-guided follicle aspiration. The procedure is performed under sedation or anesthesia, and a thin needle is inserted into the ovaries through the vaginal wall to collect the eggs from the follicles.

The retrieved eggs are then fertilized with donor sperm in the laboratory through a process called insemination or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), depending on the specific circumstances and the quality of the eggs. In ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into each mature egg to facilitate fertilization. The fertilized eggs, now embryos, are cultured in the laboratory for several days under controlled conditions.After several days, one or more viable embryos are selected for transfer into the female partner's uterus. The embryo transfer procedure is performed in a fertility clinic's procedure room and involves inserting a thin catheter through the cervix into the uterus to deposit the embryos.
