What is Tubal Ligation Reversal

Tubal ligation reversal is a surgical procedure performed to restore fertility in women who have undergone tubal ligation. Tubal ligation is a permanent form of birth control where the fallopian tubes are blocked or severed to prevent eggs from reaching the uterus and being fertilized by sperm.

The reversal procedure involves reconnecting the severed or blocked segments of the fallopian tubes to allow eggs to pass through the tubes again, increasing the chances of natural conception.

You can provide your medical history and then receive a quote together with a consultation with a fertility specialist that does not belong to an ivf clinic and but to a general surgery clinic.

Before the surgery, you may undergo various tests, including blood tests, ultrasound imaging, and possibly hysterosalpingogram (HSG) to evaluate the condition of the fallopian tubes and to ensure that there are no other underlying fertility issues.

The tubal ligation reversal surgery is performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision in the lower abdomen (similar to a C-section incision) to access the fallopian tubes. The blocked or tied portions of the tubes are then carefully dissected, and the healthy segments are rejoined using microsurgical techniques, such as sutures or tiny surgical staples. The goal is to restore the continuity and function of the fallopian tubes to allow eggs and sperm to meet.

The success of tubal ligation reversal can vary depending on factors such as the age of the patient, the type of tubal ligation procedure performed initially, the length and health of the remaining fallopian tube segments, and the presence of any other fertility issues.

Tip from experience: you have not to search for a fertility procedure for this procedure but for a general surgery clinic. In addition and depending on results an ivf procedure might be necessary and in this case in a second step you will need to liaise with a fertility clinic.
