St. Luke's Hospital was founded in 1901. Then a nursing school is established with a first class of 10 students in 1904. In 1912 St. Luke's Pharmacy was established and located in Ginza. After some period of a year, St. Luke's Board of Sponsors which include: (Mr. Shigenobu Okuma, Mr. Shinpei Goto, Mr. Tokutaro Sakai, Mr. Yoshitaro Sakatani, and Mr. Eiichi Shibusawa) take a decision in constructing a new hospital. Later in 1917, St. Luke's Hospital changes its name to St. Luke's International Hospital.
Medical departments at St. Luke's Hospital includes: General Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Nephrology, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, Endocrinology &Metabolism, Psychosomatic Medicine, Allergy and Rheumatology, Cardiovascular Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Surgery, Ambulatory Care Center for Children (Pediatrics, Pediatric Surgery, Well Baby Clinic), Gastroenterology Center (Gastroenterology, General Surgery), Breast Center and Thoracic Surgery among others.
St. Luke's Chapel clearly states the heart of the mission of St. Luke's International Hospital: to demonstrate in convincing terms the transmuting power of Christian love when applied in relief of human suffering.
The hospital consists of two chapels. Teusler Hall which is located on the 2nd Floor of the Main Building. This is the site of weekday Morning Prayer (in Japanese) and also series of interdisciplinary meetings and lectures. A lunchtime concert is also held here on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.
St. Luke's Chapel is an attractive gothic sanctuary on the 2nd floor of the Old Building. The celebration of Holy Eucharist in the chapel takes place on Sunday mornings (in Japanese). A Service of Evening Prayer with extended organ performance is held here on the first Wednesday of every month.
When not otherwise in use, Teusler Hall and St. Luke's Chapel are open to anyone who wishes to pray or reflect or simply sit in silence.
There is availability of chaplains to offer emotional support and a listening ear to patients and family members, as well as staff. In case you decide to speak with a chaplain, you can notify any member of the medical staff.

St. Luke’s International Hospital was first accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) in July 2012, and after undergoing a re-accreditation survey in July 2015, accreditation has been renewed.
