Gluteoplasty

Gluteoplasty refers to plastic surgery procedures that correct congenital, traumatic, and acquired defects or deformities of the buttocks and the anatomy of the gluteal region.

It can also be performed for aesthetic purposes to enhance the contour of the buttocks.

It is a type of cosmetic surgery that can be done in several ways. Butt augmentation or gluteal augmentation creates a rounder, firmer and more youthful-looking buttocks, while removing loose, sagging skin or enlarging a flatter surface.

Butt lift or gluteal lift, gluteoplasty, on the other hand, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin to tighten, elevate, and reshape the buttocks. It may be done as part of a lower body lift to contour the buttocks, groin, thighs, and abdomen.

The surgery can be conducted in addition with other surgery procedures such as fat injection in other areas, liposuctions.

There are different techniques for performing gluteoplasty, but the protocol may vary depending on the specific case and the surgeon's preferences. Here are some general considerations and steps that may be involved in the protocol for gluteoplasty:

  1. Consultation: The first step is to schedule a consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon who specializes in gluteoplasty. During the consultation, the surgeon will evaluate the patient's medical history, physical examination, and aesthetic goals to determine if they are a good candidate for the procedure. The surgeon will also explain the different techniques, risks, and expected outcomes of gluteoplasty

  2. Preparation: Before the surgery, the patient will need to follow some instructions provided by the surgeon to prepare for the procedure. This may include stopping certain medications or supplements that can increase the risk of bleeding or interfere with anesthesia, quitting smoking, and arranging for someone to drive them home after the surgery

  3. Anesthesia: Gluteoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, which means the patient will be asleep during the procedure

  4. Incision: The surgeon will make one or more incisions in strategic locations to insert the implants or inject the fat. The incisions are usually hidden in the natural creases of the buttocks or other inconspicuous areas

  5. Implant placement or fat transfer: Depending on the technique chosen, the surgeon will either place silicone implants or inject the patient's own fat into the buttocks to achieve the desired shape and size. The surgeon may use a special cannula to inject the fat into specific areas of the buttocks, which requires precision and expertise

  6. Closure: After the implants or fat transfer is completed, the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures or surgical adhesive and apply a dressing to protect the area. The patient will need to wear a compression garment for several weeks after the surgery to minimize swelling and promote healing

  7. Recovery: The patient will need to follow the surgeon's postoperative instructions carefully to ensure a smooth recovery and minimize the risk of complications. This may include taking pain medication, avoiding sitting or lying on the buttocks for a certain period, and gradually resuming normal activities as advised

Advantages:

  • Creates a rounder, firmer and more youthful-looking buttocks
  • Removes loose, sagging skin or enlarges a flatter surface
  • Provides a dramatic improvement in the appearance of the lower body

Disadvantages:

  • The surgery can take up to six hours if combined with other procedures, such as a body lift
  • There is a risk of seroma (fluid buildup), wound infection, and dehiscence (separation of the surgical incision)
  • Bruising on the side of the thigh may occur in some cases

It is important to note that there may be other risks associated with the procedure, and it is essential to discuss these with a qualified plastic surgeon prior to undergoing gluteoplasty.

Most of patients are a very positive return about the procedure when conducted in the right way with the right plastic surgeon.
