Penile implants are medical devices surgically implanted into the penis to treat erectile dysfunction when other treatments have failed or are not suitable. These implants provide rigidity to the penis, allowing men to achieve an erection for sexual intercourse.  

Before the consultation, that is often online, you need to provide a lot of information to the surgeon such as your medical history, including any previous treatments. The urologist will then assess the severity of the erectile dysfunction and determines if a penile implant is an appropriate treatment option.

Once the consultation is done and a quote provided, you will come to the clinic for lab tests. The patient undergoes a thorough pre-operative assessment, including blood tests, imaging studies, and possibly a psychological evaluation. This assessment helps identify any underlying medical conditions that may affect the outcome of the surgery and ensures that the patient is mentally and physically prepared for the procedure.

On day 2 you will have the surgery. Penile implant surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia to ensure the patient's comfort during the procedure. You will have discussed before the surgery and in your quote the different types of penile implants like:

1.Inflatable implants: These implants consist of inflatable cylinders that are surgically placed inside the penis. A pump device is implanted in the scrotum, allowing the patient to manually inflate and deflate the cylinders to achieve an erection.
   
2.Malleable implants: Also known as semi-rigid implants, these implants consist of bendable rods that are surgically implanted into the penis. The rods maintain a constant level of rigidity, allowing the penis to be manually positioned for intercourse.

3.Hybrid implants: These implants combine features of both inflatable and malleable implants, providing flexibility and ease of use.

During the surgery, the urologist makes small incisions in the penis and inserts the implant components into the appropriate anatomical structures. The incisions are closed with sutures, and a dressing is applied to the surgical site. The cost of your penile implant, regardless of where you do it, is mainly affected by the type of implant (its complexity) and its brand.
  The urologist provides guidance on how to use and maintain the implant device to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Penile implants have been shown to be safe and effective for treating erectile dysfunction in men who have not responded to other treatments. However, like any surgical procedure, penile implant surgery carries risks, including infection, mechanical failure, and changes in penile sensation. 

Tip: not all clinics provide this treatment therefore you shall enquire to dedicated clinics. Also many men don't really make a distinction between a penile implant and problems linked to penis size.
